Over 80 delegates attended a lively conference at Merchant Taylors Hall in York on 27 November 2009. The event marked the achievements of the 1949 National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act and provided an opportunity to discuss how to manage future change and challenges in our diverse regional landscapes.

The state of the natural environment matters to everyone in Yorkshire and the Humber. It is an essential regional asset that provides the foundations for our economic and social well being. Our Yorkshire and the Humber State of the Natural Environment report demonstrates the value of the natural environment in the region, and describes the role we all have in helping the natural environment to fulfil its potential.
Climate Change Project - Humberhead Levels National Character Area
Natural England is investigating the impacts of Climate Change on our natural environment. As part of a national project Natural England has already run a series of pilot studies, covering four landscapes (in Cumbria, Norfolk, Shropshire and Dorset) across four other English regions. The Yorkshire and The Humber region is continuing this project in the Humberhead Levels National Character Area (NCA).
Defra Statutory Guidance for Natural England on Regional Planning and Associated Matters
During 2008 the Yorkshire and the Humber region of Natural England will be working with a wide range of partners and stakeholders on regional plans, strategies and frameworks.
In common with all the English Regions, Yorkshire and The Humber has developed a Regional Forestry Strategy to guide future development and management of our tree and woodland resource.
Shoreline Management Plans (SMP) are non-statutory documents, which set out guidance to assist in sustainable coastal defence and flood management, for the next 100 years.
