Natural England - Tips and guidance on our aims

Tips and guidance on our aims

Is your project right for this scheme?

There is a high demand for our grants, so we have to make difficult choices about which applications to support. To help us do that, we will assess whether or not your application supports the aims of Natural Assets:

  1. To improve the region’s economic activity through natural assets.

We encourage projects that create or safeguard jobs; attract funding from businesses; attract tourists (more than 750 visitors), and get young people excited about the natural environment through education and training.

If your project satisfies this aim, you can apply for between £80,000 and £250,000

  2. To transform existing natural assets, realising their economic and social potential.

We want projects that improve the existing urban and rural green infrastructure, and the quality of life of people who live and work there. We are also looking for projects that encourage volunteering opportunities.

If your project satisfies this aim, you can apply for between £80,000 and £250,000.

  3. To create a lasting delivery-based legacy.

We welcome research-based projects which will support the development of future natural asset projects and attract further funding. We will look to fund projects which encourage sustainable use of the region’s natural assets.

If your project satisfies this aim, you can apply for between £35,000 and £50,000.

Whatever your project, don’t forget to show the measurable benefits it will have on the natural environment, economy and community of the West Midlands.

  4. How many grants will be awarded?

Natural England expects to award a minimum of 15 grants, worth up to £2 million, over four years.

Grant awards will range between £35,000 and £250,000, depending on how closely the project meets the aims of the scheme. Grants can only represent a maximum of 90 per cent of the total project costs.

The scheme is competitive and not all applications will be successful.
