The overall objective of the South East Regional Office Planning team is to promote sustainable development in the countryside through the statutory land use planning process at regional, sub-regional and local levels (i.e. "seeking rural development which is good enough to approve")
Our main areas of work are:
Providing detailed comments on key strategies and development plans with regard to the needs and circumstances of rural areas in the South East.
Working with regional partners to assist the review of Regional Planning Guidance and the development of the new Regional Spatial Strategy through working groups, written comments and participation in Public Examinations.
Making detailed comments on/ producing development briefs for a small number of major planning applications in areas of finest countryside, in order to promote well designed and energy efficient schemes that enhance the landscape.
As a statutory consultee commenting on various environmental impact statements for proposed developments.
Commenting on selected major strategies such as AONB Management Plans.
Liaising closely with colleagues in other teams in our influencing work (e.g. Regional Partnerships, Transport, Rural Proofing, Urban Fringe, etc.) to make life better for people in the countryside and to improve the quality of the environment for everyone.
