The Friends of Longovicium - Lanchester's Roman Fort, are holding an open evening to celebrate the completion of the Looking for Romans project. This event is on Monday 24th September at 7.30pm in Lanchester Community Centre, Newbiggin Lane, Lanchester, Durham DH7 0JQ.
David Mason, Durham County Council's Archaeologist will speak at the event and visitors will have the opportunity to meet members of the Friends of Longovicium - Lanchester's Roman Fort and see at first hand the excellent resources that have been produced in the 'Looking for Romans' project. This includes;
- An Education Pack for primary and secondary schools
- A self-guided Roman Walk leaflet,
- A book about 'Longovicium Lanchester's Roman Fort'
- And website pages on the Roman Fort hosted within Durham County Council's website.
Free copies of the walk leaflet and book will be available on the night.
You will also have the chance to learn about what the group will be doing in the future and have the opportunity to join the group should you wish.
The 'Looking for Romans' initiative, is part of the Mineral Valleys Project led by Natural England. It is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Leader+ and Derwentside District Council. Groundwork West Durham & Darlington have co-coordinated this project in partnership with Natural England.
