The heat is on! Practical solutions for land managers dealing with climate change

Farmers and land managers in the East of England can learn how to adapt to climate change without it costing the earth at a show being organised by Natural England.

Farmers and land managers in the East of England can learn how to adapt to climate change without it costing the earth at a show being organised by Natural England.

‘The heat is on!’, being held at the Rowley Conference Centre, Newmarket, on 16 January 2008, will demonstrate that reducing a farm’s carbon footprint, optimizing water use and creating clean energy will enable the farm to adapt to climate change as well as being of financial benefit.

Natural England’s Regional Director, Shaun Thomas said: “The success of our agricultural industry depends on the climate. Land managers have a vital role to play in adapting to and mitigating for climate change and this expo will show how responding to environmental changes can bring business opportunities and financial benefit.”

The event is funded by Natural England and the Environment Agency in partnership with Country Land and Business Association, East of England Development Agency, National Farmers Union, Renewables East, and The Forestry Commission.

Exhibitions will include bioenergy technologies and services including wood fuel boilers, solar, wind and geothermal energy, water collection and reuse systems, irrigation technologies and low carbon building materials.

Seminars will cover topics including:

Water abstraction, harvesting, auditing and efficiency.

Renewable energy in the form of biomass, biomass, anaerobic digestion, solar and wind.

Carbon calculators and audits and carbon neutral sustainable building materials.

Funding for farmers and land managers, with a focus on environmental projects.
