Avian influenza update
22 November 2007
Following the announcement of an outbreak of avian influenza in East Anglia, Natural England is working closely with Defra to support them during the incident; in particular it is advising them on public access and wildlife management.
Confirmation of a second infected premises means that Natural England manages one National Nature Reserve, Brettenham Heath, in the Surveillance Zone and the Reserve remains open as usual. Natural England has increased its regular bird monitoring on all relevant reserves.
The Joint Nature Conservation Committee have updated the inter-agency position on avian influenza and wild birds.
More information is available on the Defra website.
