Proposed National Park Extensions: Lakes to Dales
Natural England is consulting on four proposed extensions to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. The new areas lie between the two National Parks and the consultation seeks views on whether they have the qualities necessary to be in a National Park, whether they should be given National Park status, and where the boundaries should be drawn. Consultees are also being asked whether, if the Orton Fells are designated, they should be included within the Lake District National Park or the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Please see the Lakes to Dales Project pages.
The position will underpin Natural England’s stance and interactions with the fishing and aquaculture industries. It covers issues such as inclusion of the industry in fishery matters, an ecosystem approach to fisheries management, reduction of environmental impacts of fishing, sustainable fisheries and the use of best available technology to monitor fishery activities.
Purpose of the consultation: The purpose of the consultation is to seek expert opinions and views of all interested parties on Natural England’s fisheries and aquaculture positions.
How to respond to the consultation: To make a response, you can send your opinions and comments to the fisheries department at fisheries@naturalengland.org.uk or send them marked F.A.O. Ian Campbell, Fisheries Specialist at Natural England, Northminster House, Northminster Road, Peterborough, PE1 1UA.
All comments and opinions must be sent to Natural England by 19 April 2010.
Following the consultation: Natural England will collate all responses and send copies to all respondents. Any amendments to the draft position will then be considered by the Executive Committee of Natural England for approval.
