This map shows the priority areas for ELS water and soil protection options in the Yorkshire and the Humber region.
It shows the areas that are failing the Water Framework Directive standards due to agriculture. These include water bodies at high or good status that are at risk of deteriorating due to agriculture, and water bodies at less than good status with a confirmed agricultural reason for failure.
Grey: Surface Water Priority Areas*
Red: Groundwater Priority Areas**
Green: Catchments affecting Shellfish Waters & Bathing Waters

Farms within Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZ)
should especially focus on options that reduce nitrate leaching, such as winter cover crops.
Farms within Catchment Sensitive Farming priority catchments
may be eligible for free training on specific measures to reduce water pollution, and may also be eligible for capital grants
towards the improvement or installation of facilities that would benefit water quality by reducing diffuse pollution.
