Farming for birds in Yorkshire and the Humber

This map shows the priority areas for ELS farmland bird options in the Yorkshire and the Humber region.

It is based on the distribution of landscapes that have a lot of arable farming and on the distribution of the 10 most wanted farmland birds; grey partridge, lapwing, turtle dove, skylark, yellow wagtail, tree sparrow, linnet, yellowhammer, reed bunting, and corn bunting.

Red: High priority, with hotspots of the six rarer species; grey partridge, lapwing, turtle dove, yellow wagtail, tree sparrow and corn bunting.

Orange: Medium priority, but still with important populations of the ten most wanted species.

The Farmland Bird Package of ELS options should be used in both these areas wherever possible.

The rest of the region is low priority, as there are fewer populations of arable farmland birds due to the land use. The Farmland Bird Package is less likely to be relevant here, although it is recognised that within these areas significant local exceptions may occur.
