Natural England - How to register as a volunteer

How to register as a volunteer

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer and offering your time and skills to benefit local nature conservation, please contact your regional office to discuss volunteering opportunities. If there is a suitable opportunity you can tell us more about yourself and your interests by completing the registration form.

Return the form to your regional office, and they will try to match your interests and skills to the roles available. If a suitable role is available, the office will contact you to arrange for a placement.

If no suitable role is immediately available, the office will store your details, confidentially, until a role does become available. Or they may contact you and suggest alternative voluntary placements - either with Natural England or with other conservation organisations.

If you become a volunteer with Natural England you will receive:

  • information on your voluntary role and how it fits into the work of your office
  • induction training into the regional office and to your role
  • information on health, safety and welfare
  • an identity card for use during your voluntary role
  • any protective clothing or equipment required for your role (on loan)
  • copies of newsletters, leaflets, publications or handbooks that may be of interest.

You will also be:

  • entitled to claim for agreed out-of-pocket expenses
  • covered by a personal accident insurance policy whilst volunteering
  • part of an office of paid staff and other volunteers.

We ask all our volunteers to:
