Geological Interest

This site provides magnificent exposures of the lower Triassic Cheshire Pebble Beds of the Sherwood Sandstone Group. The exposures comprise pebble/cobble conglomerates and sandstones, in units that coarsen upwards and vary laterally. Comparison with recent river sediments indicates that the Chester Pebble Beds were deposited by substantial, braided rivers that crossed the extensive desert plains of the Lower Triassic.
