Geological Interest

These disused quarries provide rare exposures of the contact between the Dartmoor Granite and Devonian country rocks of the Kate Brook Formation. The contact is highly irregular and provides evidence, in the form of the minerals within the rocks, of how the country rocks were metamorphosed by the high temperatures during the emplacement of the granite.
