Stodmarsh hosts a variety of different species, all year round.
January – this is your best chance of seeing a bittern
April-May – watch out for marsh harriers and their aerial feeding displays over the reedbeds; breeding waders like lapwing displaying over the grazing marsh; and spring flowers like lady’s smock in the woodland
May - early June - hobbies arrive from Africa and engage is aerial displays as they circle looking for dragonflies and then swoop to catch them.
Late summer/early autumn – migrant birds, particularly waders attracted to the bare mud caused by dropping water levels, start to arrive. This is also the peak time for dragonflies.
Winter - great for large flocks of wildfowl and starling roosts, as well as winter visitors like siskin in alder woods.
