North Walney NNR is in south Cumbria, close to Barrow-in-Furness.
North Walney can be accessed on foot from Earnse Bay and is approximately 1.2km north of the car park and facilities found there.
Due to the remote nature of the site, North Walney can only be accessed by pedestrians. We regret that there is no access for wheelchair users, mobility scooters or pushchairs.
We encourage the use of sustainable transport whenever possible.
Walney Island is linked to Route 72
of the Sustrans National Cycle Network and the Walney to Wear (W2W) cycle route.
Please note: cycles are not permitted on the NNR.
The nearest train stations are Barrow-in-Furness
and Roose
(5km south east of the NNR).
Stagecoach run a regular bus service (No. 4 and 4A) from Barrow town centre and from Roose station to Earnse Bay.

Access to the reserve by car is via minor roads from the A590. From Barrow-in-Furness follow signs to Walney Island. After crossing the Jubilee Bridge turn right at the traffic lights. Drive along the promenade following signs for West Shore/ Earnse Bay.
For satellite navigation systems use postcode LA14 3XZ. A car park can be found at Earnse Bay. From here walk approximately 1.2km northwards along the rough track by the sea to reach the National Nature Reserve. Two welcome signs mark the southern boundary of the NNR.
Two major trails pass near the reserve, the Cumbria Coastal Path
and the Cistercian Path

The nearest toilets can be found at the car park at Earnse Bay. A shop selling refreshments can also be found here.
