The NNR is 4 km west of Glastonbury in Somerset, in the valley of the River Brue.

Although most NNRs are managed by Natural England, 88 are wholly or partly managed by other bodies approved by Council, under Section 35 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. 

Ham Wall NNR is owned and managed by the RSPBexternal link.

It is an area of former commercial peat extraction land which is in the process of being restored to wetland habitats, particularly reedbed.

Location and access

Ham Wall is between the villages of Meave, Ashcott and Sharpham, 4 km west of Glastonbury. The main car parking area is at Ashcott Corner (on the Ashcott to Meare Road), on the English Nature managed Shapwick Heath NNR.

The reserve can be visited at any time of year.

A board walk with viewing areas allows wheelchair access. Tactile visitor information boards are available for the blind and partially sighted.
