The reserve is part of the third largest lowland raised mire in Britain: Fenn's, Whixall, Bettisfield, Wem and Cadney Mosses SSSI. See also Fenn's and Whixall Mosses NNR. The open mire is fringed with wet woodland. There are developing bogmoss lawns with open pools, and these support cranberry and all three British species of sundew.
Wem Moss is between Bettisfield and Northwood, 6.5 km south west of Whitchurch. Access is by permission only, contact the Shropshire Wildlife Trust for details.
The nearest toilet and refreshments facilities are in local villages.
