Although most NNRs are managed by Natural England, 88 are wholly or partly managed by other bodies approved by Council, under Section 35 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

Weeting Heath NNR is owned and managed by the Norfolk Wildlife Trustexternal link.

The reserve is a classic example of open, rabbit-grazed Breckland grass heath, and is one of the best places in Britain to see the rare and elusive stone curlew.

Location and access

Weeting Heath is four km west of Brandon. The entrance to the reserve is on a minor road between the villages of Hockwold and Weeting. There is a carpark on site next to the visitor centre. Coach parties and groups over 15 people are advised to book in advance.

Norfolk Wildlife Trust members and children have free access to the reserve.

The reserve is open from April to September.

Facilities

Toilets and refreshment facilities are available in the reserve's visitor centre. The nearest picnic area is in Brandon country park. Brandon also has village shops and pubs.

The visitor centre and all bird watching hides are accessible by wheelchairs.
