Gardening with wildlife in mind

Gardening with wildlife in mind, an on-line programme, shows the relationship between garden plants and the creatures that depend on them. It gives you the information you need to attract more wildlife into your garden – without turning it into an unkempt wilderness.

Gardening with wildlife in mind focuses on a number of 'creatures' that are both distinctive and desirable. It also features some such as slugs and snails which most gardeners would rather not have, emphasising the valuable role they play in attracting species that people enjoy seeing, such as song thrushes, slow-worms, frogs and toads.

You can look for a specific plant or creature - or you can search for a whole category and browse through the results. You can also stop at any point and explore the links within a complex food chain. If you decide to grow plants that you have found in the programme, you can make and print a wish list.

You can find out which creatures favour which plants and browse through the stunning photograph collection of more than 500 plants and 300 creatures. The programme also features 200 tips about wildlife gardening as well as advice about habitat creation and a useful bibliography.

In Autumn 2008, the Gardening with Wildlife in Mind programme will get even better with the addition of a collection of birdsong recordings.
