Could you create an app that will appeal to mobile device users and help them to engage with nature? The app that best helps bring people closer to nature will win a £5,000 prize.
The app should be innovative, available to as many people as possible on Android, Windows Mobile, or iOS and offer new or improved ways for people to get the most from nature.
Designers can take advantage of the wealth of data available on Natural England’s data download site
. Over 100 geographical datasets are available under the Open Government Licence
; you are encouraged to use these in your app, although it is not a requirement. You may use any data or information so long as you have the permission of the data owner.
You can find out more on the competition webpage, including how to enter and terms and conditions.
Natural England, in partnership with the Environment Agency, is creating a new web portal service called My Environment
– a service to help people find all the information they need in one place to make it easier to explore, understand, enjoy, and protect the natural environment in England.
If you’d like to know more about the web portal project, or have questions about the app competition contact MyEnvironment@NaturalEngland.org.uk.
