Natural England has announced that it will sponsor the 'Countryside Farmer of the Year Award', as part of the Farmers Weekly Awards 2009. The awards champion environmentally-friendly farming across the UK, and showcase the achievements of farmers and land managers.
Natural England Chief Executive, Helen Phillips, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the significant contribution farmers make as stewards of our countryside. The Farmers Weekly Awards are the industry’s most prestigious and this fits with our work to promote the huge amount of time and energy that farmers and land managers across the UK put into looking after our countryside and natural environment.”
The 'Countryside Farmer of the Year Award' will ask farmers and land managers to outline how their businesses work alongside environmental measures; their work with local communities or the wider public; and how they are working to protect and improve the biodiversity, historic heritage, soil, water and environmental value of their farm business.
We encourage all farmers to consider putting themselves forward for this prestigious award. For more information and entry forms, please visit http://www.farmersweeklyawards.co.uk/

Notes to editors:
Sponsorship of the Farmers Weekly Awards is a natural next step from our successful work with farmers during the last two years of Natural England’s 'Future of Farming Awards'. It moves our awards work centre stage on the national farming scene, enabling us to support the farming industry and team up with a leading farming publication.
This platform enables Natural England to continue to champion the outstanding contribution farmers make to looking after the natural environment.
